Twenty-one centuries later we can still be confident that our faith is based on fact, not mere enthusiasm.
God made his presence known to believers at Pentecost in a spectacular way--roaring wind, fire , and his Holy Spirit.
God may use dramatic methods to work in your life--or he may speak in gentile whispers. Wait patiently and always listen.
After Peter's powerful, Spirit-filled message recorded in Acts 2:37, the people were deeply moved and asked, "What should we do?" This is the question we all must ask.
It's not enough to be sorry for our sins--we must let God forgive them, and then we must live like forgiven people. Like Peter's audience, ask God what you should do, and then obey.
About 3,000 people became new believers when Peter preached the good news about Christ.
These new Christians were "joined with the other believers," taught by the apostles, and included in prayer meetings and fellowship.
If you have a relationship with Christ, seek out other believers for fellowship, prayer, and teaching. This is the way to grow in Christ.
Recognizing other believers as brothers and sisters in the family of God, Christians in Jerusalem shared all they had so all could benefit from God's blessings.
It's tempting to cut ourselves off from one another, each taking care of his own, each providing for and enjoying his own piece of the world. But as part of God's family, we have a responsibility to help one another when possible.
The lame beggar in Acts asked for money, but Peter gave him something much better--the use of his legs.
We often ask God to solve a small problem, but he wants to give us a new life and help for all our problems. Ask God for what you want, but don't be surprised when he gives you what you really need.
By using Jesus' name, Peter showed who gave him the authority and power to heal. The apostles did not emphasize what they could do, but what God could do through them. Jesus' name is not to be used as magic--it must be used by faith.
When we pray in Jesus' name, we must remember that it's Jesus' himself, not merely the sound of his name, that gives our prayers their power.
