Simon Peter was a fisherman and the first disciple called by Christ to follow Him. Peter was a willing disciple to be faithful but also proved to be impulsive at times.
He was not trained as a Rabbi and had a Galilean accent, which made him appear to some people as ignorant and unlearned.
Peter was considered a leader in the early church and worked particularly among the Jews, while Paul preached primarily to the Gentiles.
Peter was arraigned twice, with John, before the Sanhedrin and defied them.
He undertook a missionary journey to the ancient town of Lydda, where he healed Aeneas.
The believers in Joppa, an old port city, sent for Peter after a woman named Dorcas died, and Peter brought her back to life.
While in Joppa, Peter had a vision that led him to open the gospel to Cornelius, the Gentile, in Caesarea.
He was present at the Council Jerusalem, where Paul argued the case for accepting Gentiles into the Christian community.
In Acts, it was Peter who...
Led in selecting a replacement for Judias Iscariot.
Proclaimed the gospel on Pentecost and 3,000 Jews were saved.
Explained that God healed the lame man at the temple gate.
Preached the good news of the gospel to Cornelius.
Declared in Judea that God had granted repentance to Gentiles.
Peter's Sermon in Acts 2
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this what was spoken by the prophet Joel . . . .
"Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know -- Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it . . . .
"Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
"Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that in the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.
"This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out his which you now see and hear.
"For David not not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself:
'The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool." '
"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
